چکیده

The main objective of this research project is to residual deformation and collapse mechanism of structural system and to assess the seismic demand of this system. In this study three major works are developed: a. Develop a physical-based inelastic hysteretic model which contains stiffness and strength degradation, pinching and residual deformation, b. Based on the proposed model the seismic demands of structural system are examined. Emphasis is concentrated on the study of MDOF system, c. Conduct the shaking table test of collapse. Examine the collapse behavior and develop the hysteretic model which included the collapse mechanism. Through this study three research papers were generated and they are listed as follows: 1. Loh, C.H., L.P. Hong,C.L. Wu, W.I. Liao and Y.S. Yang “Evaluation of Maximum Drift Demand for Seismic Performance Assessment of RC Buildings,” Paper for the Int. Conf. of 5 Anniversary of 921 Ch-Chi Earthquake, Sept. 2004 2. Loh, C.H. and S.T. Chung, “Prediction of Equivalent Linearization Method Considering SSI Effect on Seismic Demand of Structures,” Paper submit for publication in J. of Earthquake Engineering, 2004. 3. C-L Wu, C.H Loh, Y.S. Yag, and C.H. Lin, “Consideration of Collapse and Residual Deformation in Reliability-Based Performance Evaluation of Buildings,” Proceedings of 13WCEE, Vancouver, Canada, August 2004. Evaluation of Seismic Vulnerability of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Adjacent to the Deep Excavations

In this study, the effect of deep excavation on the seismic response of RC moment resisting building systems has been studied. Deep excavation can cause significant changes in the stress and strain levels of soil environment and also changes in the propagation of seismic waves. This leads to permanent displacements in the foundation system. In this study, three RC building systems, i.e. 5, 10, ...

Damage Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Considering Irregularities (RESEARCH NOTE)

Structural damage can be controlled in performance based seismic design (PBSD) according to the requirement under a certain hazard level. During strong ground motion (GM) such buildings suffer minor to major damages depending on the shaking level of GM. The available damage assessment methods are complex, tedious and time-consuming procedure. In the present study, a simplified empirical model h...

Seismic Performance of RC Frames Irregular in Elevation Designed Based on Iranian Seismic Code

Setback in elevation of a structure is a special irregularity with considerable effect on its seismic performance. This paper addresses multistory Reinforced Concrete (RC) frame buildings, regular and irregular in elevation. Several multistory Reinforced Concrete Moment Resisting Frames (RCMRFs) with different types of setbacks, as well as the regular frames in elevation, are designed according...

Influence of Real Ground Motion Records in Performance Assessment of RC Buildings

Reinforced concrete frame buildings with Open Ground Story (OGS) are one of the most common building configurations in urban habitat. These configurations are known to be vulnerable to seismic excitations, primarily due to the sudden loss in strength in the ground story and differential stiffness distribution throughout the structure. The differential stiffness distribution is attributed primar...

Seismic Performance of Torsionally Stiff and Flexible Single Story Buildings Designed Based on Iranian Seismic Code(Standard 2800)

This paper examines differences in performances of a range of torsionally stiff and flexible single story buildings designed with the provisions of Iranian Standard 2800. Seismic nonlinear dynamic time history behavior of eight building models subjected to seven horizontal bi-directional design spectra compatible ground motions are investigated. These models cover a wide range of very torsional...
